The Client:
California-based Pacific Gas & Electric is one of the largest combination natural gas and electric utilities in the United States.
The Project:
To replace PG&E's billing system with an implementation of the world's largest packaged energy billing system. PG&E chose SPL WorldGroup's CorDaptix™ Customer Management Solution to replace a legacy billing system that could meet neither the company's strategic objectives nor customer needs for real-time information.
Blue Heron's Role:
In November 1999 Blue Heron joined PG&E's implementation of SPL WorldGroup's CorDaptix™ Customer Management Solution. Blue Heron was the primary subcontractor to PG&E, working with lead contractors PriceWaterhouseCoopers and SPL WorldGroup. Blue Heron's resources assisted PG&E in the installation, customization, and implementation of the CIS replacement. The project scope included all major utility business processes, among them bill presentment and payment, credit and collections, and field operations.
Benefits for PG&E
With the successful cut-over to the new system Dec. 6, 2002, PG&E had a platform for building flexible programs capable of being changed rapidly. The utility also is able to offer customers improved response times. According to SPL, the new system handles more than 6.7 million accounts and 10 million service agreements. It processes more than 250,000 bills nightly.
Blue Heron continues to work on-site at PG&E, providing CIS support.
